HIV or Human Immuno Deficiency Virus by itself is not a sickness and it is not sure that it would cause Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or more commonly AIDS.
This is proved by
many live cases of people who live without getting AIDS for a long period of time. Although, the virus is the stepping stone to the disease, it is treatable. AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome results in incompetence of our body in fighting the invading infections and cancer.
The most common HIV test is the highly sensitive HIV antibody test or ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay) tests, having almost cent percent correctness and detects the virus in an individual. HIV antibody tests are particularly made for usual diagnostic testing, as they are cost efficient and very accurate.
Antigen test is also a widespread procedure. Antigens are the material found on an outside or unknown invader or
germ that arouses the antibody production in the body. The antigen that starts as an antibody response in HIV is the protein P24.
The 3rd type of test is RNA or DNA test that perceives the genetic material of HIV and recognize the virus within 7 days of infection are less used. This is because they are pricey and complex. DNA or RNA tests come in several forms.
RNA test known as NAT (Nucleic Acid-amplification Testing) is frequently used to diagnose blood supplies.
Radio Immuno Precipitation Assay (RIPA) is another assenting blood test used during uneven antibody levels. Other tests include Rapid Latex Agglutination Assay, a simple, cost efficient blood test in detecting the virus presence. The original course of entry for the virus is by infringing the immunity of the body. The immune systems deteriorate, in course of time and the body experiences various fatal diseases. This opens the danger of other diseases and infections.
The presence of the human immunodeficiency virus i.e. HIV in serum, saliva or urine is detected by these tests. 5 in a minute are entering the portals of suffering from these disorders. Special proteins are produced, when the virus gains entry in the body. The incidence of these antibodies, decide the presence of the virus. Antibodies are noticeable with in 6 to 12 weeks of incubation. There is rarity in cases, developing the antibodies, much later than 6 months.
A test results positive in HIV antibodies does not deduce the occurrence of AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. HIV is contracted through blood and bodily fluids like
- Blood
- Vaginal secretions
- Semen.
Unsafe blood transfusion without proper care leads to AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. Abstinence from usage of unimpeded blood is a sure way of deterrence. Intercourse with the infected person, using or sharing of used needles from an contaminated person results in virus transmission causing AIDS.
